Q: 2000 GMC sierra engine is cutting out at times?
The engine is a 5.3 liter. At times the engine idles rough. Also, misses or cuts out between 40 and 50 miles an hour at low rpms. I tried fuel injector cleaner, took to dealer. They put a new fuel pump on it. Nothing changed. I also tried an engine recorder from the dealer and everything came back as normal. Spark plugs are also new. What could be the problem?
A: It could be the plug wires like the other guy said but if you brought it to the Dealer for this problem and they shot gun (throwing parts) a fuel pump at it and it did not fix it I would be right back there asking questions on why this did not take care of the problem. the ECM should have a code in it for a misfire on a cylinder if it starts missing on two back to back trips. If I let a truck go that I had worked on that still ran like poo after working on it the boss would have me in his office asking why. Good Luck.
Ps did they/you put a new fuel filter on it also? (they should have)
Q: 2000 GMC Sierra Side mirror problems?
2000 GMC Sierra, my side mirror cracked and fell out when I was backing out of my garage. I ordered a replacement mirror w/ back, and tried to 'snap' it in place. when i push on the mirror, the entire mechanism behind the mirror pushes back with it, and it doesnt 'snap'.
i think something else might be broken, and i need to replace the entire unit. should the mirror be able to move back into the housing?
A: yes mirrors are glued in
Q: Advice needed for replacing shocks on my 2000 GMC Sierra?
I own a 2000 GMC Sierra with just under 58,000 miles. It seems like the ride has deteriorated in the past year...Gotten rougher. My owners manual says nothing about replacement intervals, the dealer told me they normally don't replace shocks because they don't usually wear out, (yeah...right) another shop says one thing (50,000miles), the tire store says another!! Anyone know the right answer or milage recommended or had a similar experience with their OE GMC shocks? I have tried the 'bounce' test and that is inconclusive for me. HELP!
A: i work at a chevrolet dealership and shocks from the factory are not cheap shocks. we very rarely change them at 58000 miles. take a look at the shock. are they leaking? you can see the oil,. the bounce test is the best. go to the corner of the truck and bounce it 3-4 times and let go. if it bounces more than once you need a shock. go to all 4 and do this test. have you changed tires on your truck? if so they may be a different kind than you had before. do you rotate? run your hand over the tire in both directions. are they smooth? if they are bumpy feeling that means they are cupping and you may need an alignment. good luck

Q: How do you change a front hub on a 2000 GMC Sierra Z-71?
A: 4-Wheel Drive
"K" Series (4WD) vehicles have sealed front wheel bearings that are pre-adjusted and require no lubrication maintenance. Darkened areas on the bearing assembly are caused by a heat treatment process and do not require bearing replacement.
1.
Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
2.
Remove or disconnect the following:
*
Wheel
NOTE
Wrap shop towels around the CV-Joint boots to protect them from damage during this procedure.
*
Brake caliper and support it aside
*
Brake rotor
*
Cotter pin, retainer, castle nut, and thrust washer from the axle shaft
*
Tie rod end from the knuckle
*
Hub/bearing assembly retaining bolts
3.
Using a J-28733-B hub/bearing puller tool or equivalent, press the hub/bearing assembly from the splined shaft.

Q: Battery question GMC sierra 2000?
Hi i have a GMC sierra 2000 and my battery keeps dying what battery do i need to put in it? points for best answer!
A: Why is it dying, is it old, do you have an electrical short some where? If the battery is fairly new take it to someone and have them test the electrical. As far as refilling, a lot of newer batteries are maintenance free so you can't fill them and if you can definitely use distilled water. Check with your GM dealer or auto parts retailer for the battery that fits your truck.
Q: 2000 GMC Sierra?
I have a 2000 GMC Sierra 2500 and I'm going to buy a lock-right differential locker. How many splines do I need? I know its an 8.5 but what is the spline count on my truck
A: I own a shop, build a lot of rear-ends, and can tell you this. They put two different spline axles in your vehicle, and you are just guessing unless you remove the inspection plate, and count them. Mark one with some whiteout, and count them as you turn a wheel. You will lose the oil in the rear-end when you remove the cover, but you can get a hand pump from the parts store that will make it easy to put it back in with. If it's a posi-unit type you will need special oil to go back with that is for that type of differential. You could just strain the oil and reuse it. Use something like a pair of panty hose to strain it with if you get dirt in it. Put a coat of RTV around the cover when you put it back, so it don't leak.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!
Q: Is there a fusible link on a 2000 gmc sierra 2500?No power at the field coil of alternator, not charging.?
A: Ibelieve you will find it were the hot post is screwed into your battery.what I mean is that you should have the big hot wire going to the battery and off of that wire you should see another wire that run to the alternator. The in line fuse is at the beginning of the wire closest to th battery .
Q: My 2000 GMC Sierra has trouble starting after new spark plugs, battery and fuel pump, does anybody know why?
A: does it start hard cold or warm? 5.3 and 6.0 liter engines are known for fuel pressure regulator leaks. this usually causes hard start with engine warm. to check it, open hood find fuel rail, this has all injectors hooked to it. on the drivers side you should see round device with vacuum line. remove line and if there is fuel present this is the problem. normally leak warm so check after driving
Q: what kind of fuel injection system in a gmc sierra 2000 2500 truck. IS it a digital multipoint injection?
I want to convert my truck to e-85 and I need to know what to do to convert it. Do I need to replace gas tank, gaslines , fuel pump and is the fuel system compatible for this fuel. I am thinking about buying a flexfuel system for my truck. Please only serious answers
A: It should be. The General did away with that old antiquated throttle body FI long ago in the 80s. Check with your dealer. There's probably just a minor programming change to deal with the E85. I understand you will lose a little power and economy, so I hope you're not paying as much for the stuff. One poster here said she was saving an unbelievable 80 cents per gallon. I don't know.... 'nuff said?
Q: rear axle ratio 2000 GMC Sierra truck?
what is towing capacity (weight limit) for 2000 GMC Sierra p/u truck
A: you need to be more specific, is it a 1500, 2500 or 3500 and what size engine does it have, is it gas or diesel

Q: I have a 2000 GMC Sierra replaced fuel pump, fuel filter and fuel injector pressure regulator can't hear pump?
Can't hear the fuel pump turn on
A: The fuel pump will only run with either the motor running or for about two seconds when you turn the ignition to on from off. This "prime" for the fuel pump is the only time the fuel pump relay will work as it is PCM controlled. The fuel pump runs from a feed on the oil pressure sensor/swicth. If you think the fuel pump doesn't run, check for pressure at the fuel injector rail. If none, check the power back to the fuel pump in the connector test port in the under hood fuse center with the priming circuit. If you have the two second prime power, the PCM and relay are good. Crank the motor until it definitely has oil pressure and the test port should be powered again. If it does, your problem is further down the line at the tank connector, inside the tank, or the ground for the pump from the tank connector to the frame rail. Did you forget to hook up the ground? More testing required.
